    How to choose a cost-effective Bluetooth module?

    As a short-range wireless communication technology, Bluetooth has been widely used, such as smart homes, medical equipments, wireless monitoring, automotive electronics, and so on. As the Bluetooth technology is very mature and the price is not high, there are many different sizes and types of Bluetooth modules available on the market, so how to choose the Bluetooth module suitable for your products?

    1. Chip

    The chip determines the computing power of the Bluetooth module, and a strong „core“ can ensure the performance of the Bluetooth module.     2. Power consumption

    BLE module is known for its low power consumption, but it has a variety of working status: broadcast (100ms interval), continuous transmission (20ms interval), deep sleep (μA), standby state (μA); The consumption is different in each status. This needs engineers to confirm it according to the specific Bluetooth solution.

    3. Stability

    Especially as a communication module in an industrial system, it pays special attention to stability and monitorability. The host system needs to know the working status of the Bluetooth module at any time. A good Bluetooth module should be able to provide external working status indication signals, link control signals and watchdog signal.

    4. Size

    Nowadays, some portable smart devices such as smart watch, bracelets, electronic cigarettes, voice recorders, etc. pursue small size, so the size of the Bluetooth module should be small.     5. Transmission distance

    Bluetooth is mainly divided into two power levels, the class 1 standard communication distance is 100 meters, and the class 2 standard communication distance is 10 meters (Class1 has higher power than Class2, and the communication distance is longer, and the corresponding Class1 radiation is greater). Before determining which BLE module meet the data transmission requirements according to the distance in the actual application of the Bluetooth solution, developers need to know what environment their products are used in and whether they need long-distance transmission. For wireless products that do not require long range, such as wireless mice, wireless headsets, and remote controls, you can choose a Bluetooth module with a transmission distance of more than 10 meters; for products that require long range, such as decorative RGB lights, you can choose a module of which the transmission distance is more than 50 meters.
